Horse Powertrain’s X‑Range series is a flexible toolbox of solutions that allows OEMs to convert their battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) into hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and range-extended EVs. This enables them to respond to rising hybrid demand without compromising their existing EV offerings.
Currently comprising three powertrains – the F15 Direct Drive, C15, and C15 Direct Drive – these ‘all-in-one’ solutions bring all the systems needed for a hybrid or range-extender powertrain together into a single, shared unit. These enable BEVs to be used as the foundation for hybrid vehicle lineups without requiring costly redesigns, freeing up resources that would otherwise be spent on a parallel hybrid production footprint.
The first solution to be developed in the X‑Range series, the F15 Direct Drive (F15DD) was the first BEV‑to‑hybrid conversion package of its kind in the industry.
The F15DD is designed to replace the front electric drive unit of a BEV. Combining an engine, transmission, motor, and power electronics into a single unit, it fits in the front compartment of a vehicle without requiring any modifications to its overall shape or other internal systems. It is designed to be mounted directly to the vehicle’s subframe, meaning it can be easily integrated without changing the vehicle’s design.

The C15 is a dedicated all-in-one engine and generator package, allowing OEMs to easily convert their BEVs into range-extended EVs.
Roughly the size of a suitcase, the C15 includes an engine, generator, and inverter. Its compact design allows it to be positioned in multiple locations within a vehicle - whether horizontally or vertically, in the front compartment or at the rear. This unique approach unlocks exceptional flexibility for automakers, allowing a wide range of existing vehicle designs to be accommodated.

The most recent addition to the X‑Range family, the C15 Direct Drive (C15DD), completes the hybridization offering.
By integrating a transmission into the original C15 architecture, the C15DD serves as a full hybrid powertrain within a single shared housing with a flat profile. The C15DD allows automakers to replace the rear electric drive unit of a BEV, enabling compact integration of the exhaust and after‑treatment systems at the back of the vehicle. One of the key benefits of this configuration is that it maximizes floor space for batteries or for the passenger compartment.

When all three technologies are considered together, the X‑Range series provides a comprehensive hybridization toolkit for OEMs.
For automakers, this represents a valuable opportunity to expand their vehicle portfolios and meet growing market demand. As the industry shifts away from reliance on a single dominant powertrain type, this hybrid conversion toolbox provides the flexibility, technology, and scalability needed to address the diverse requirements of the global automotive market.
Rather than requiring manufacturers to develop multiple architectures and spread resources across different powertrain strategies, Horse Powertrain can deliver ICE and hybrid capabilities. This allows OEMs to focus on what they do best: creating distinctive, capable vehicles for their customers.
